Target Objectives 2006-07
The objectives which EaStMAN plan to achieve during the period October 2006 to September 2007 are:
- Develop the core fibre infrastructure to provide greater resilience and RNEP independence for the attached community
- Implement new PoP hardware to support
- 10Gbps transport across the core;
- New SuperJANET5 services:
- resilient IPv4 multicast and IPv6 routing;
- Quality of Service
- Continue to investigate and implement resilience options where feasible and affordable, to alleviate the impact of connection failure for attached institutions.
- Carry out procurement for the managed circuit services on EaStMAN (circuits services must be in place end September 2007).
- Delivery of the Southern Loop (during October 2006);
- Purchase and installation of new fibre core PoP routers capable of supporting 10Gbps and new SuperJANET5 services. (Schedule depends on reconfiguration for new fibre infrastructure and managed service procurement).
- Continue discussions with suppliers to investigate feasibility and value of implementing an early, interim Eastern Loop resilience using cost effective wireless technology, providing throughput of the order 100s Mbps (over 2006-2007).
- Deploy passive optical equipment where possible (diplexer or CWDM) for connecting the Stirling PoP etc. circuits in a resilient fashion to provide independence of RNEP (by late autumn 2006).
- Continue investigation and move to implementation, of the Internet connection route for providing some resilience to remote attached sites (throughout 2006-2007).
