EaStMAN: Target Objectives
The objectives which EaStMAN plan to achieve during the period October
2005 to September 2006:
- Develop the EaStMAN infrastructure to accomodate the dual
SuperJANET5 Regional Network Entry Points at Appleton Tower and King's
Buildings.
- Implement higher performance equipment to support 10Gbps links and
to redistribute bandwidth.
- Implement improved resilience, where feasible and affordable, to
connection failure for attached institutions.
- Attach UKlight to EaStMAN.
This will be performed by:
- Completing the UPS installation and attachment of network equipment
(end October 2005);
- Reconnecting the core fibre infrastructure to attach to both King's
Buildings and Appleton Tower S-PoPs (November and December 2005);
- Purchasing equipment and upgrading the core S-PoP routers to
support 10Gbps Ethernet and the 2.5Gbps POS interfaces to JANET
(complete by January 2006);
- Attaching the Etherswitches supporting 10/100Mbps connections to the
two RNEPs using CWDM (by January 2006);
- Attaching SuperJANET5 to the POS interfaces at the RNEPs (by July
2006?);
- Investigating reconnection of EaStMAN ring sites - ongoing;
- Procurement of alternate paths across the EaStMAN fibre ring to
support resilience (to be in place by October 2006);
- Investigation of the use of Internet connection to support some
services during failures at remote sites (Spring 2006);
- UKlight project timescale will be notified.
